Former World No. 5 Kevin Anderson announced his retirement from professional tennis on Tuesday.

In a multi-part post to Twitter, Anderson said:

“Today I finally arrived at the difficult decision to retire from professional tennis. There are so many people who helped me along the way, and believed that a kid from South Africa could achieve his dreams.”

Anderson thanked his parents, brother and his wife Kelsey, among many others. In his career, Anderson reached the 2018 Wimbledon finals and the 2017 U.S. Open finals. He won seven career ATP Tour singles titles, including one here in New York.

Anderson won the inaugural New York Open title back in 2018, coming back from a set down to beat American Sam Querrey at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island.

“Thank you to all the fans who watched, cheered and have been there for me along all the way,” said Anderson. “I will always appreciate the outpouring of support you showed me.”
