Serena Williams suffered the most lopsided match of her career on Tuesday as Johanna Konta beat the 23-time Grand Slam champion 6-1, 6-0 at the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose, Calif.

“It’s an absolute privilege to be on the same court as Serena. After all she’s achieved, it’s so humbling just to come up against her,” said Konta. “She obviously wasn’t playing her best level—nowhere near—so I tried to play the match on my terms and just do what I can out here, put aside what an incredible champion she is, and just play the player on the day.

I might have been better on the day, but it’s still a humbling experience to be out there with her.”

Konta didn’t face a break point throughout the 52-minute match, and broke Serena six times in eight tries to cruise in the first-round contest.

In the second round, Konta takes on American Sofia Kenin, who was a 6-4, 6-4 winner of Paraguayan qualifier Veronia Cepede Royg.
