Playing in his home country, Australia’s Nick Kyrgios captured the Brisbane International title on Sunday, defeating American Ryan Harrison 6-4, 6-2 to win the fourth title of his career.

“I felt good all week. I felt right at home,” said Kyrgios. “Every time I stepped out here you have me such great support. I love playing in front of you guys even though sometimes it may not seem that way. But I do. I really appreciate it.”

Kyrgios saved all five break points he faced against Harrison to claim the title in one hour and 13 minutes.

“He came out firing early. He had a lot of chances. And I knew that was going to be the gist of how things were going to go,” said Kyrgios. “I knew he was going to come out and play really aggressive, try and take things into his own hands. And I was just telling myself to just keep with it and things will steady on.”

With the title, Kyrgios climbs up to No. 17 in the ATP World Tour rankings.

In the women’s singles draw, Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina brought her 2017 momentum into the new year by claiming the title with a 6-2, 6-1 win over qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

“To start with a trophy is always very, very special,” said Svitolina. “It was very important to use what I was working on during the offseason, and it was working. One match at a time, I was improving in some parts. I was playing better and better.”

Svitolina did not face a break point all match long and moves up to No. 4 in the WTA Rankings.
