USTA Eastern, in partnership with the New York Open, will host the first-ever New York Open College Wild Card Invitational on November 16-18 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.

The best college tennis players from across the region will go head-to-head over the three-day event, with the champion receiving direct entry into the singles main draw of the 2019 New York Open, a 250-level tournament on the ATP tour, held at NYCB LIVE, Home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Admission to the Invitational is free and open to the public.

“This is an incredible and rare opportunity for one college player to compete in an ATP tennis tournament against the biggest stars in men’s tennis,” said USTA Eastern Executive Director Jenny Schnitzer. “Given what’s at stake, we’re expecting high-quality matches and fierce competition.”

Players from Adelphi University, Army, Binghamton University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Hofstra University, The New York Institute of Technology, Princeton University, Queens College, St. Francis College, St. John’s University, and Wagner College are all confirmed to participate. The number of spots allocated to each college in the Invitational draw will be based on Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings and Universal Tennis Rating (UTR). Top college programs will be able to send up to four of their best players.

The inaugural New York Open was held earlier this year in February. Two-time grand slam finalist Kevin Anderson captured his fourth ATP title at the event, outlasting 2017 Wimbledon semifinalist Sam Querrey in a tightly-contested final, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (1). Both Anderson and Querrey have committed to play the tournament again in 2019, as has current American No. 1 and 2018 Wimbledon semifinalist John Isner.

The tournament will once again be held February 9-17, 2019 at NYCB LIVE. The winner of the Wild Card Invitational will battle one of the world’s top players in a first-round match on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 during the tournament’s College Night.
