Osuigwe Clinches USTA’s Australian Open Wild Card Challenge

Teenager Whitney Osuigwe clinched her spot in the 2019 Australian Open main draw, winning the United States Tennis Association’s (USTA) Australian Open Wild Card Challenge, the USTA announced on Monday.

The challenge lasted for four weeks and included a number of different USTA Pro Circuit tournaments. The 204th ranked Osuigwe won her first professional title earlier this month at the $80,000 event in Tyler, Texas, and finished atop the challenge’s standings with 160 points.

Osuigwe, the former French Open girls’ champion back in 2017, will compete in her second straight Grand Slam main draw having also played in the U.S. Open earlier this summer.
