St. John’s junior Ignacio Garcia will play for Puerto Rico at this year’s Davis Cup, marking the fifth time that he will represent his country in the world’s premier team tennis event.

The qualifying rounds for the 2020 Davis Cup begins this Friday, March 6 and will run through Saturday, March 7. With just 12 spots available in World Group II, Puerto Rico is one of the 24 nations vying for those 12 spots, and will face off against Denmark.

Garcia, a native of San Juan, began competing for Puerto Rico at the 2016 Davis Cup, and has put together an 11-3 record, including eight singles victories.
