Tennis players would benefit greatly by following the idea that each time you step on the court, things will be different. It is extremely unusual for matches to happen exactly the way they happened last time. The conditions can vary, the court surface can be different, the players can feel different, and things can just happen during the match to change whatever happened last time.
A great point won by a player can swing the momentum in their direction. A few unforced errors at a crucial time in the match can put doubt in even the best player's head and cause problems. A great mentality to capitalize on the "its a new day" adage is to play every point the best you can, regardless of what has already happened. Stay focused on the next shot, next point, next game and never give up.
If you are prepared for things to change from day to day, it will be easier to stay in the moment.
Every day is different and each day provides another opportunity to get out and enjoy the great sport of tennis.
