Andy Murray evened up Great Britain’s Davis Cup quarterfinal against France at 1-1 on Friday, defeating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-5, 7-6(10), 6-2.

The opening set was on serve through the first 11 games until Murray secured the first break of the match. At 6-5, Murray hit a return that Tsonga was unable to get back to win the first set.

Tsonga responded by breaking in the first game of the second set, only to see his break advantage evaporate as Murray broke to even the set at 3-3. The set would head into a tiebreaker, and both players had set points, but it was Murray who outlasted Tsonga 12-10 to take a commanding two sets to love lead.

Murray cruised in the third set, breaking twice in three opportunities to close out Tsonga and pull Great Britain even with France at 1-1. Gilles Simon beat James Ward 6-4, 6-4, 6-1 earlier in the day to open up the best-of-five quarterfinal match.
