Americans Coco Vandeweghe and Christina McHale both made their way into the Aegon Classis second round on Wednesday.

Vandeweghe took out top seed Agnieszka Radwanska for the biggest win of her career, ousting the third ranked player in the world 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. Resuming a match that began on Tuesday, Vandeweghe notched the lone break to take the opening set 7-5.

Radwanska would take the second set to force a deciding third, but Vandeweghe responded in the third. She jumped out to a double break lead, and despite dropping serve with a chance to close things out, she would wrap it up in the next game to nail down the victory.

“I just stuck with my game plan; I got myself into a little bit of trouble here and there in the second and third set, but I just managed through it,” said Vandeweghe. “The confidence from last week and winning the title helps get you out of that tricky situation. You’ve done it so well the week before that nothing really phases you and it’s just another match.”

In the second round, Vandeweghe will take on fellow American Christina McHale, who downed Katerina Siniakova, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.

Fourth-seeded Belinda Bencic saw her tournament come to an end, retiring while down 4-6, 3-4 to Irina Begu.
