ASA College Sits Atop Preseason ITA Junior/Community College National Rankings

The ASA College Men's and Women's Tennis teams start the 2014-2015 season at the top of the Preseason ITA Junior/Community Colleges National Rankings. The Avenger squads won both the men's and women's 2014 NJCAA National Championships, the first two national titles in ASA College history for any sport. Right behind the Avengers in the ITA Junior/Community Colleges National Women's Rankings is Tyler Junior College. The Apaches, who were edged 47-46 in the NJCAA National Championship by ASA last year, have also been very strong this fall.
Joanna Savva earned her place as the number one player in both the doubles and singles rankings by cruising to a pair of junior college titles at the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships. Savva did not surrender a set in either singles or doubles during junior college play, pairing with Paige Murdock to oust the top-seeded Seward team, 7-6(3), 7-6(3).
On the men's side, ASA College maintains its top spot. The Avengers have two singles players in the top five and two doubles teams in the Top 10. Laredo Community College earned the number two spot, as Csongor Toth and the pair of Arturo Pinazo and Gabe Evans made the finals at the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships.
Freshman Guy Iradukunda of Seminole State claimed the top spot in the ITA Junior/Community Colleges National Singles Rankings, knocking off 2014 NJCAA Singles Champion Josh Page and Toth in consecutive matches to claim the singles title at the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships in Sumter, S.C. Topping the doubles rankings is the Georgia Perimeter College duo of Celestin Nkoueleue and Sam Slade, who claimed the doubles title in Sumter.

On the men's side, ASA is followed by Laredo, Tyler, Cowley, Seminole State, Seward, Mesa, Collin College, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and Harford.
