Loeb Captures Second ITF Title of 2016 in El Paso

Bronxville’s Jamie Loeb captured her second ITF Pro Circuit title of 2016 over the weekend, downing Caitlin Whoriskey 7-5, 6-3 to win her second consecutive Hunt Communities Women’s Pro Tennis Classic 25K in El Paso, Texas.
Things started off slow for Loeb as she suffered the first break of serve, and after Whoriskey consolidated the break, the Boston native held a 4-1 lead.
But Loeb responded with a break, and consolidated her break with a hold to bring things even at 4-4. She then rattled off three of the next four games to come back and steal the opening set.
Loeb carried that momentum into the second set, breaking for the 4-3 lead, and after consolidating it with a hold, closed the match out with one more break of serve to win her second straight El Paso title.
"I felt that I stayed composed and was very positive in all of my matches. Even when I was down I kept fighting and truly believed I could win," said Loeb. "That was something I struggled with for the past couple of months and I'm proud that I was able to push through some tough matches. I got better each match and I hope I can continue my success in my upcoming tournaments."
The former North Carolina star and John McEnroe Tennis Academy product will look to build on this win she competes in the University of the Pacific 50K Challenger in Stockton, California beginning on July 11.
"I have a lot of confidence right now and I hope I can use that moving forward," Loeb added. "I lost a lot of close matches the past two months, so it's always a great feeling winning a title. I was able to turn things around and overcome many obstacles."
Whoriskey did capture the doubles title in El Paso, partnering with Ashley Weinhold to defeat the top-seeded duo of Sanaz Marand and Carol Zhao 6-4, 7-6(3).
