Djokovic To Miss Cincinnati Masters

World number one Novak Djokovic will miss the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati next week, citing a left wrist injury.

“I have a recurring injury that has taken its toll on my body due to a very busy and active schedule this year,” Djokovic said in a statement on Wednesday. “I have played many matches I have to take some rest in order to heal. I always have my hopes high on returning to Cincinnati and winning the only trophy I am missing in the Masters series.”

Djokovic lost in last year’s Cincinnati final to Roger Federer, who will also miss this year’s tournament after announcing he will be out for the rest of 2016 to recover from a knee injury.

Following his Rogers Cup title, Djokovic was bounced in the first round of the Olympics by Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro in straight sets.

Djokovic is 51-4 on the season with seven titles.
