One-On-One Doubles Coming to NY in July
The crosscourt serve-and-volley Singles game including the alley, known as One-On-One Doubles, will rock the Hamptons in July with some of the top serve-and-volley players from the east coast entering. The $1500 Hamptons One-On-One Doubles Shootout is slated to be held at Doug DeGroot’s Hither Hills Racquet Club, in Amagansett, on Saturday, July 10 starting at 1:30 p.m. and finishing around 6 p.m.
Players are mandated to serve-and-volley on both serves or there is a loss of point; half volleys are permitted. Players receive a two point bonus for winning volleys and overheads the opponent cannot touch. This will be the first One-On-One Doubles tournament, in the Hamptons, since the tournament’s inception in 2004.
“Many of my tennis friends up East told me, for the past 15 years, that I need to host one of my tournaments in the Hamptons in the summers. We know Long Island is the place to be in the summer and the Hamptons is the epicenter for the ideal tennis event and mini-vacation. It is coincidental that I came up with the idea of starting One-On-One Doubles Tournaments sitting on the Amagansett beach during the summer of 2003, and then the power went out all over the East Coast, how prophetic is that!? LOL! This will be great exposure for One-On-One Doubles and a ton of fun for the players and fans!” stated Ed Krass, Founder of One-On-One Doubles Tournaments and College Tennis Exposure Camps.
The draw is limited to 24 players. The winner will receive $1000 and the Finalist will receive $500. Entry Fee is $100. Free Admission for tennis fans and guests. The tournament will guarantee each player a minimum of 3 matches. Each match will be a six game set, no-ad scoring with a ten point tiebreaker played at 5-5.
“The club is directly across the street from the beach where players can go in for a swim after they finish! The club will also host a players and guests barbeque,” added Krass. “The place will be rocking with some great tunes playing throughout the event, so this will be an event to remember. I think Amagansett is my favorite city in the Hamptons and on Long Island, so this will be a special treat for all of us”,
One-On-One Doubles, sanctioned for USTA tournament play, is now on the UTR platform for registration here at UTR – Unifying tennis for everyone (universaltennis.com). One-On-One Doubles has been played as part of ATP, USTA, USPTA and ITA national tournament events.
