USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center Welcomes Pickleball With APP New York City Open
The home of the U.S. Open tennis tournament played host to the Association of Pickleball Professionals (APP) during Memorial Day Weekend as the Zimmer Biomet APP New York City Open brought some of the world’s top pickleball talent to Flushing, Queens.Â
The tournament featured five professional divisions as well an array of additional competitions, with the highlight of the weekend being 21-year-old Jack Munro capturing two gold medals.
Munro was victorious in the Men’s Pro Doubles division alongside Aidan Schenk as the pairing came back to defeat qualifiers Len Yang & Thomas Yu 4-11, 11-5, 11-7 in the championship match.Â
He then paired with Megan Fudge, the all-time medals leader in APP Tour history, and the duo were victorious against Amanda Henry & Chris Haworth 11-7, 8-11, 11-8 in three games to claim the gold.Â
In Men’s Pro Singles, Armaan Bhatia outlasted Alex Crum as he won a thrilling 15-10, 27-25 championship match to earn the title, while Sofia Sewing defended her 2024 title with a 15-12, 16-14 triumph over first-time finalist Nicole Eugenio to win the Women’s Pro Singles gold. Â
Allison Harris & Bobbi Oshiro teamed up to defeat Emily Cederquist & Yana Newell 11-2, 11-9 in the Women’s Pro Doubles division, which rounded out the results of the Pro Divisions.Â
