Bloomberg, PwC Capture Metro Corporate League Summer 2026 Titles

In the shadow of the U.S. Open in Queens, the Summer 2026 season of the Metro Corporate League in New York City wrapped up in late August with the end-of-season party and finals at Roosevelt Island Racquet Club (RIRC).
The Metro Corporate League allows working professionals in New York City who played competitive tennis throughout their lives to continue playing high-level tennis alongside and against other like-minded individuals.
At the end of every season, players from all teams are invited to RIRC for this night where there is catered food and an open bar, all while the top two teams in each division compete for the league’s title. The night is the perfect way to celebrate a fun and competitive season, and brings players from across the league to celebrate together.
“The Metro Corporate League is a fantastic opportunity for working professionals in the city,” said Tim Breckel. “It gives us a chance to connect with colleagues outside the office while scratching that competitive itch that a lot of us never quite lost from our high school and college tennis glory days. There’s also a great social element to it. You get to meet and compete against people from other firms through a shared interest, and those often are the interactions that lead to the kind of informal, organic connections that are much harder to manufacture in a traditional networking setting.”
Breckel is the captain of the team from PwC, and his squad defeated Bloomberg (Brian) to capture the title in the Advanced Intermediate Division. This year’s final was a rematch of last year’s which finished in Bloomberg’s favor, but Breckel and his teammates were able to exact a bit of revenge this time around.
“We fought hard in 2025, but ultimately came up short, so to be able to avenge our loss a year later made the victory taste even sweeter for us,” said Breckel. “We pride ourselves on going out on court and giving it everything we have, but also making sure we’re having fun with it. The chemistry our team has built is really the secret sauce here. Even our teammates who couldn’t make it to the finals were supporting us in our group chat which always features plenty of banter and good vibes.”
Bloomberg did not go the entire night without winning a title of its own, however, as in the Intermediate Division, the Bloomberg team captained by Varsha Dwarakanathan brought home the title with a victory over Hudson River Trading.

When asked what the keys to the triumph were, Dwarakanathan said:
“We just tried to stay focused, take it one point at a time, and most importantly remember to have fun,” said Dwarakanathan. “We supported each other, stayed positive and tried not to overthink things. It all came together in the end and we’re really happy with the win.”
Both teams will now look to the Fall 2026 season which is underway where they will try and defend their titles.
“It’s honestly a lot of fun,” Dwarakanathan said of the Corporate League. “New York City can be tough when it comes to finding court time, so the league is a great excuse to get out and play regularly. I also love that you end up meeting so many new people through it. Everyone is coming from different companies and backgrounds, but you already have tennis in common so it’s really easy to connect. And, of course, a little friendly competition makes it even more fun.”
