Kushnirovich Captures New Jersey One-On-One Doubles Title
Two dozen players from the Tri-State area were treated to a rockin’ One-On-One Doubles Tournament Event despite the area’s Nor’easter coming in.
Gary Kuchnirovich won his fourth One-On-One Doubles Title as he defeated Monmouth University’s Assistant Coach, Victor Castro, 4-1, in the Final. The five-court round robin finished with eight players advancing to the knockout rounds and a chance at the $1,500 Prize Money pool.
Whitney Kraft, former Tennis Director at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center and current coach at the Hoosac School, drove three hours with six of his players to compete in the event. Two of Hoosac’s players advanced to the knockout rounds.
“I want to thank Mike Smookler and his fantastic staff for hosting our 2nd Annual One-On-One Doubles event at the West Orange Tennis Club,” said One-On-One Doubles Founder Ed Krass. “The player’s dinners were sponsored by Hubertos, and our event provided everyone with Diadem String and a tournament t-shirt.”
As One-On-One Doubles events go, this one had an exciting vibe to it with some former D1 players, area coaches, teaching professionals and nationally ranked juniors competing.”
