Serena Delivers Win in Round One of Bank of the West Classic

American Serena Williams defeated Australian Anastasia Rodionova, 6-0, 6-0 in first round action at the Bank of the West Classic on Tuesday at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium on the campus of Stanford University. Currently ranked 169th with the WTA, the match marked Serena’s first on American soil in nearly two years since her 2009 appearance in the semifinals at the U.S. Open. She is slated to appear at the U.S. Open Series events in Cincinnati and Toronto before the end of August when she returns to New York for the 2011 U.S. Open. Serena has missed 49 weeks of action nursing various injuries. Serena will face Russian Maria Kirilenko in round two of the event.
