Roddick Pulls Out of Next Week’s Legg Mason Classic With Oblique Injury

American Andy Roddick has announced his withdrawal from the Legg Mason Classic in Washington, D.C., set for July 30-Aug. 7 at William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park, due to a partially-torn abdominal muscle on his right side. Roddick had mentioned the injury most likely occurred during a practice session.
The tournament also announced the withdrawals of several other notable names, including two-time Grand Slam champion Lleyton Hewitt, American Sam Querrey, Canadian Milos Raonic, and young Japanese player Kei Nishikori.
The highest remaining ranked players in the tournament are Gael Monfils from France and American Mardy Fish, ranked seventh and ninth, respectively. Other notable names still participating in the tournament are last year’s champion David Nalbandian of Argentina, Fernando Verdasco of Spain, Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus, Americans James Blake and John Isner, and Tommy Haas of Germany.
