This week, the WTA announced that Charlotte, North Carolina will serve as the host site of the WTA Finals beginning in 2027.

The Finals will be held at the Spectrum Center, home of the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA), in 2027, 2028 and 2029. The WTA is also relocating its global headquarters from St. Petersburg, Fla., to Charlotte over the next year as part of the deal.

“The WTA Finals represents everything that makes women’s tennis extraordinary: the world’s best athletes, competing at the highest level, on a stage worthy of what they have accomplished,” said Valerie Camillo, Chair of the WTA. “Women’s tennis has spent generations helping push women’s sports forward, and we have an opportunity now to lead again by building a championship experience that reflects just how far women’s sport has come and where it is going next. In Charlotte, we found more than a host city. We found partners who share that ambition, and a place where we can build a true home for the Finals and for the WTA.”

According to the WTA Press Release, this new venue will:

“The multi-year partnership will give the WTA greater opportunity to shape the experience and identity of one of its most important assets, deepen relationships with fans and commercial partners, and build a championship platform designed to grow alongside women’s sport.”

Last year’s WTA Finals were held in Indian Wells, and in 2022 it was held in Fort Worth. Prior to that, the last time the WTA Finals were played in the United States was from 2002-2005 in Los Angeles.
