Columbia Men’s Tennis Earns No. 8 National Seed, Faces Quinnipiac in First Round of NCAA Tournament

Columbia earned the No. 8 national seed and will get the 2024 NCAA Tournament started with a first-round matchup against Quinnipiac on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Philip and Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center.

As the No. 8 national seed, Columbia continues to make history as the first Ivy League team to ever earn a top-eight seed in the NCAA Tournament. Columbia will host its fifth regional in the past 10 years and will have a chance to host a super regional for the first time in program history with two wins this weekend.

“I am extremely proud of our players who have worked hard their entire careers for this amazing opportunity,” Bidyut K. Goswami Head Coach of Men’s Tennis Howard Endelman ‘87CC said.

Columbia finished the regular season with a 20-3 overall record and a 6-1 mark in Ivy League action. The Lions claimed the Ivy League title for the 17th time in program history after winning their final six matches of the regular season. It was Columbia’s first crown under coach Howard Endelman ‘87CC.

Columbia tallied 11 wins this season over opponents ranked inside the ITA Top 75. The Lions are currently ranked No. 7, but peaked at No. 4 earlier this season for the best ranking in program history.

The Lions will face Quinnipiac in the first round Friday afternoon. The Bobcats claimed their first-ever MAAC championship by defeating Fairfield, 4-2 in the championship match. Quinnipiac is 14-10 overall this season and finished conference play with a 5-1 mark.

Columbia’s regional also features 29th-ranked Michigan and Binghamton. Michigan made a run to the Big Ten Tournament Championship match, ultimately falling to No. 1 Ohio State. Binghamton

After the regional championships, super regional play will commence to determine the eight teams who will earn their spot into the NCAA National Championships which will be held in Stillwater, Oklahoma from May 16-19.

Match 1 – Michigan vs. Binghamton, 10 a.m.
Match 2 – Columbia vs. Quinnipiac, 1 p.m.

Match 3 – Match 2 Winner vs. Match 1 Winner, 1 p.m.
