Delray Beach Open defending champion Taylor Fritz and Palm Beach County resident Tommy Paul, who are returning for the 2024 event Feb. 9-18, are the top two Americans in the ATP Tour world rankings at No. 12 and 14, respectively. Paul, however, could overtake Fritz to become the top-ranked American for the first time by winning an event this week in Adelaide, Australia, where he is the top seed.

Fritz will begin his title defense at the Delray Beach Stadium & Tennis Center on Wednesday night, Feb. 14, while Paul will open play on Thursday night, Feb. 15. Night sessions start at 6 p.m., with Fritz and Paul scheduled to play the 8 p.m. matches. The full initial entry list will be revealed next week. Tickets are on sale now at DelrayBeachOpen.com.

Last year was a breakout season for Paul, 26. He reached his first Grand Slam semifinal at the Australian Open, was a two-time finalist on the ATP Tour and notched a win over No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, all leading to a move up the world rankings from No. 32 to a career-high No. 12.

Fritz, 26, was ranked in the Top 10 throughout 2023. He was the first current Top 10 player to hoist the Delray Beach Open trophy with his victory last February, which moved him up to a career high of No. 5. Fritz was recently named to the U.S Davis Cup team for its tie against Ukraine.

Both Fritz and Paul are seeded at the year’s first Grand Slam event, the Australian Open in Melbourne, which begins Saturday at 7 pm ET. Both also are featured in season 2 of the Netflix series “Break Point,” which is available beginning today on the streaming platform. Season 2 follows ATP and WTA players behind the scenes on and off the court during the 2023 season.

Opening weekend of the Delray Beach Open starts with the ATP Champions Tour Legends event Feb. 9-11 that features six-time DBO champions Bob and Mike Bryan, the most successful doubles team in the history of the sport, former world No. 2 Tommy Haas, former Delray Beach champions Ivo Karlovic and Sam Querrey, local pros Jesse Levine and Scoville Jenkins, and past French Open champions Luke and Murphy Jensen. It also features the Women’s Tennis Challenge at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, an exhibition between former Wimbledon finalist and world No. 5 Eugenie Bouchard and current junior Wimbledon champion Clervie Ngounoue.

Alongside the legends on Saturday and Sunday will be qualifying matches for the ATP 250 tournament. The Delray Beach Open main draw begins Monday, Feb. 12, with daily play until the championship match on Sunday, Feb. 18.
