American James Blake has announced his withdrawal from the 2012 Australian Open. Australian Open Tournament Director Craig Tiley announced Blake’s move in a Twitter post on Wednesday, saying, "Just got word that James Blake has withdrawn from the AO and Brisbane. Sorry to hear this and we wish James all the best."

Tiley didn’t say why the American pulled out of the event, but speculation is a knee issue is involved. Blake is currently ranked 59th in the world on the ATP Tour. In addition to sitting out the Australian Open, Blake will also miss the Brisbane International Open which is set to begin Jan. 1 and serves as a warmup for the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open.
