New York OOOD Events have been held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Sportime Westchester and Sportime Kings Park, Stony Brook University, West Point, Hither Hills Racquet Club in Amagansett, Bonnie Briar Country Club in Larchmont, Saw Mill Tennis Club, in Mt. Kisco, and at Chestnut Ridge Racquet Club.

Brad Breakstone, Tennis Director at the Chestnut Ridge Club, runs an annual Pro Shootout Singles Tournament where he brings tennis professionals from throughout the East Coast to compete for prize money. Brad has become a quick fan of One-On-One Doubles Tournaments since he hosted his first OOOD Tournament event, which includes adding amplified rock n’ roll music to the event:

“I am excited to host a OOOD Tournament Event here in New York!!

I learned first- hand, from Ed Krass, how to run this event and I know our members and local players will fully enjoy this creative and competitive format!”, said Breakstone.

Gary Kushnirovich

The One-On-One Doubles Men’s Open events feature former ATP, college and nationally ranked Junior players. A player who has captured two New York events is former ATP player, Gary Kushnirovich, who played college tennis at Army and at St. John’s University. Gary works as a high performance USPTA Elite professional in New Jersey.

“One-On-One Doubles is a fast paced, incredibly fun game that showcases all the game’s shots and stresses the serve, return, first volley and returner’s next shot. The game’s two- point volley conversion rewards players for coming into the net and for serving and volleying. Playing OOOD will get players to enrich their games. All players these days can grind from the baseline. Not enough of them learn to close the net well. This game will encourage those net rushing and volley skills”, said Kushnirovich.

A finalist in two of the events has been former Columbia University All-American, Max Schnur, who reached a high of #87 on the ATP Doubles Tour in 2022.

“Developing my OOOD game helped me master the three most critical shots that every doubles player needs to have: the serve, the return and the volley at midcourt. Playing OOOD gave me the tools to simplify my game and created the blueprint for me to have a successful career playing doubles on the ATP Tour”, stated Schnur.

One-On-One Doubles is the crosscourt serve-and-volley Singles game including the doubles alley. Players are required to serve-and-volley on both serves or there is a loss of point; half-volleys are allowed. Players earn a two- point bonus for winning volleys and overheads — hit out of the air — the opponent cannot touch.
