Safarova in Czech Hospital With Infection

The Czech Republic’s Lucie Safarova, recently into the top five of the women’s singles rankings, has been hospitalized in her home country with an unspecified infectious disease.

“It’s been really hard month for me,” she wrote. “Injury and now fighting bacteria infection in hospital!”

It is unclear when she will recover or be released.

Along with partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the United States, the two won the Australian Open and French Open titles, and have already qualified for the WTA Finals in Singapore. She is also fifth in the singles race, and has a strong shot at playing in the singles tournament of the WTA Finals.

The French Open finalist posted a picture and a message on her Facebook page:
