Serena Williams erased a lot of doubts on Thursday as she rolled over young Canadian Eugenie Bouchard 6-1, 6-1 in Singapore. The win comes on the heels of Serena’s worst loss since 1998 after she was routed by Simona Halep 6-0, 6-2 on Wednesday.

With her back against the wall, Serena played some of her most inspired tennis. She fired a bevy of winners at Bouchard, who has looked sluggish at best in her three matches at the WTA Finals.

“Yesterday was tough for me but I had to put it behind me,” said Serena. “My coach really helped me out and to focus on today, telling me that I’m still in the tournament, even though I felt like I was out of it after such a tough loss.”

Serena took out her revenge on Bouchard who has managed to win just 11 games in her three total matches in Singapore.

The 20-year-old actually captured the opening game of this match, but Serena, a day after losing eight straight games at one point, won 12 of the final 13 games in convincing fashion to keep her alive in the tournament. Her serve was too powerful for Bouchard all-match long, and she even dialed one ace up to 126 miles per hour at one point in the second frame.

She committed just 12 unforced errors as she rolled to the straight-set win in under an hour.

While Bouchard is eliminated, the number one ranked player in the world will be keeping a close eye on tomorrow’s match between Simona Halep and Ana Ivanovic. Halep has already clinched a spot in the final four, but would help Serena advance if she is able to take one set from Ivanovic.

If the Serb wins in straight sets, she goes through and Serena is eliminated.

That match is one of three singles bouts tomorrow. Petra Kvitova will take on Caroline Wozniacki while Agnieszka Radwanska will look to eliminate Maria Sharapova.
