World number one Serena Williams won the 53rd title of her career at the 2013 Collector Swedish Open by beating Johanna Larsson, 6-4, 6-1. With the win, Serena tied Monica Seles for ninth place in most WTA titles in the Open Era. Serena was down a break in the first set, but came back to tie it three-all. Her opponent put up a good fight in the beginning, but the strong serve of Serena took over and won her the first set. The second set was less of a contest with Serena breaking Larsson’s serve twice. Larsson is Sweden’s number one player and was the number eight seed at the event.
"It was really good to come here and win after a disappointing Wimbledon so hopefully this confidence will help me for the rest of the year," said Serena.
Larsson knew she didn’t play well, and commented on her play after the match, “at the crucial points I wasn’t really present, which was a shame.”
This was only the second meeting between the two players, with Serena having a win over Larsson in a Fed Cup match earlier this year.
