Top Juniors Compete In “Little Mo” North Regionals

While the top professionals in the world competed at the U.S. Open, some of the country’s top junior players gathered across the Hudson River in New Jersey to compete in the “Little Mo” North Regionals.

The annual event took place at West Orange Tennis Club and is one of the four Regional tournaments that take place throughout the year as part of the “Little Mo” event series.

“We always look forward to coming to the Northeast. There is so much tennis history and tradition in this part of the country, and holding our tournament around the same time as the U.S. Open makes it even more exciting,” said Carol Weyman, Executive Director of the MCB Tennis Foundation which operates the “Little Mo” tournament series. “The U.S. Open also has a special connection to our Foundation because Maureen “Little Mo” Connolly won the U.S. Championships three consecutive years, from 1951–1953. In 1953, she became the first woman to win the Grand Slam. She is still the only American woman to have accomplished this magnificent feat and also the youngest at only age 18. We enjoy being in the area during the U.S. Open, as it is a wonderful opportunity to share Maureen’s remarkable legacy with a new generation of young players.”

Players not only compete on court, but the “Little Mo” events provide an opportunity for these young people to meet new friends, and demonstrate sportsmanship and camaraderie within that competition. At each event, players receive “Little Mo” Coins for their good sportsmanship which they can then exchange for prizes.

This year’s North Regionals proved to be a success with a turnout of more than 200 players.

“It was fun to see so many families come together from all over the USA for a fantastic weekend of competitive tennis, outstanding sportsmanship and new friendships,” Weyman added. “The West Orange Tennis Club is a beautiful setting for the tournament, and we are grateful for their hospitality and support. The enthusiasm from the players and families made it a successful and memorable weekend.”

The final tournament of the 2026 series will be the third and final leg of the “Little Mo” Internationals in Palm Beach Gardens in early December. To learn more about all tournaments, visit mcbtennis.org.
