World number three-ranked Roger Federer of Switzerland won the 2012 ABN AMRO World Tennis finals for his first title of 2012 after defeating Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. Federer led 5-0 in the first set with Del Potro making many errors. The Argentinian del Potro, who defeated Federer in the 2009 U.S. Open final, led 2-1 in the second before Federer won the next five out of seven games to win the match.

Federer saved all seven of the break points he was faced with and broke del Potro three times.
