Tennis fans received encouraging news over the weekend as it was reported that US Open officials have begun putting together a plan to hold the event on time and in New York City, with an announcement coming sometime in mid-to-late June.

Stacey Allaster, the USTA’s chief executive officer for pro tennis, spoke to the Associated Press about the potential plans to host the tournament safely, which includes additional locker rooms with improved air filtration, chartering flights for players from specific locations around the world, player entourages of less than four people, fewer line judges and much more.

“We continue to be 150 percent focused on staging a safe environment for conducting a US Open at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on our dates. It’s all I and our team wakes up thinking about,” said Allaster. “We are spending a lot of time and energy on all the models, including no fans on site. The government will help guide us.”

Allaster added:

“All of this is still fluid.”

US Open officials are working hard to ensure the tournament can be held on time and in a safe manner towards the end of August. A further announcement will come down later this month.
